“Got Your 6.” Just what does that phrase mean?

“Got Your 6.” Just what does that phrase mean? Picture yourself at the center of a clock face. The area directly in front of you would be 12:00. That’s your “twelve.” 6:00 is what lies behind you, the potential peril you can’t see. On a battlefield, your 6:00 position is the most vulnerable. So, when someone tells you that they’ve “Got Your 6,” it means they’re watching your back. By extension, that person expects you to have their back as well. Over a million service men and women will leave the military and return to civilian life over the next five years. They’ve spent much of their lives wearing the nation’s uniform and standing in harm’s way. No one asked them to. They volunteered out of a spirit to serve and protect the country we all love. Now, it’s our turn to say to veterans, “Hey, I’ve Got Your 6.” All of the major entertainment studios, broadcast and cable networks, talent agencies, and guilds are uniting to launch this unprecedented awareness campaign aimed at changing the conversation in our country with regards to veterans and military families. Got Your 6 will show how civilians can help veterans make a smooth transition to life after the military, focusing on 6 pillars of reintegration:
  • Health
  • Housing
  • Family
  • Education
  • Jobs
  • Leadership
These Americans had our 6. Now, as they return home to family, friends, and the communities they served, it’s time to show them that we’ve got their 6.
