Hosted with Google at their New York campus, each of these talented speakers will give a short presentation on their unique area of focus, with the common thread between the talks being the empowerment of veterans as problem solvers, team builders, and innovative leaders. These men and women continue to bridge the civilian-military divide through their work, while representing the very best qualities of our veteran and military family populations. As part of our ongoing mission to prepare our community for disasters, whether caused by nature or humans, the American Red Cross will host the 29th annual Disaster Preparedness Academy on October 30 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Participants will engage in workshops that are tailored to meet the interests of emergency managers from large and small businesses to government agencies, and from education to faith-based organizations. Workshop presenters include psychologists, geologists, law enforcement officers and a variety of other emergency preparedness experts. Attendees will also hear from expert keynote speakers.

This September, veterans, civilians, and active-duty service members will volunteer with The Mission Continues at six projects across the nation in tribute to the twelfth anniversary of 9/11. Each project will honor the sacrifices of those lost on September 11, 2001 and in years since in-defense of the country.

The 2013 SVA Leadership Institute will take place at the Lumina Foundation’s Headquarters in Indianapolis, IN from July 31st to August 3rd. Student veteran leaders from any of SVA’s 800+ chapters are eligible to apply. Attendees will be selected based on a number of criteria to ensure that the diversity of SVA’s chapter network is reflected at the event. We will aim to bring student veterans from various types of institutions of higher education, from well-established chapters and newly created ones, from large and small schools, and from various regions of the country.
The 4th Annual Pat Tillman Leadership Summit will convene at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois from July 11-14th, 2013. The Summit will empower Tillman Military Scholars to fuel their potential and impact our country’s future through their commitment to service, learning and action. Through leadership, career and creative development workshops, the Summit will encourage Scholars to network and collaborate to make a sustainable impact globally and in their local communities, as well as to increase awareness of the unique issues facing veterans and military families today.
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, and the nation’s top military commanders — including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff General Martin Dempsey — will gather to support the nation’s youngest heroes: children of military service members with the Military Child Education Coalition.
In June of 2013, President Clinton will host the third meeting of CGI America, an annual event focused on finding solutions that promote economic recovery in the United States. This working meeting will bring together leaders from the business, foundation, NGO, and government sectors to develop solutions that increase employment, advance access to education and skills development, strengthen energy security, and promote an environment for business growth and innovation.

Macy’s launches their American Icons program at their New York City flagship store
Saturday, June 1st is Macy’s Got Your 6 Saturday in celebration of the American Icons program. On this one day only, Macy’s shoppers will receive a 25% shopping pass for any day they choose, with close to no limitations, when they donate at least $3 to Got Your 6.
As part of the American Icons program, Macy’s has set the goal to raise up to $3 million for Got Your 6 and our veterans. When you shop at Macy’s between May 12th and June 9th, you will have the opportunity to donate $3 to Got Your 6 at the register and in return, will receive a 15/20% savings pass for any day you choose. You can also donate $6 to Got Your 6 and receive a golden Got Your 6 pin to wear your support, as well as the savings pass.

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), in a continued effort to serve with and in honor of veteran and military families, is hosting the Veterans Build on the Mall event in the first week of June 2013. HFHI along with local area Habitat affiliates will be framing seven houses on the National Mall, representing each branch of the military and National service. The event will highlight the housing needs of veterans and the great value they bring to our neighborhoods and communities.
Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build Initiative
Across the country, more than 200 Habitat affiliates have developed strong grass roots efforts serving veterans. HFHI’s national Veterans Build initiative is enhancing the impact of these efforts leveraging national service programs to serve more veterans with housing solutions, and providing employment and volunteer opportunities for veterans, service members, their families, and families of the fallen.
Got Your 6 has developed a partnership with Wells Fargo in order to make this goal a reality. The dynamic collaboration will kick off with a Veteran Hiring Week during the last week of March 2013, where veterans and military families will be given the chance to attend exclusive hiring fairs and events. In addition, the entertainment industry—led by members of the Got Your 6 Steering Committee—will launch an online portal to assist veterans in finding entertainment employment. The week will be rounded out by a small business competition for commercial airtime on SPIKE TV, and a tour of the innovative and industry-tailored services of Goodwill Industries International, the National Activation Partner of the Got Your 6 campaign.
Give an Hour, as the lead activation partner for the health pillar of the Got Your 6 Campaign, is proud to announce two days of inspiring events to be held in New York City, June 2-3, 2013, to inaugurate its program to educate, by June of 2014, 100,000 students in mental health disciplines on the unique issues of veterans and military families.
